Location – The Gastein Valley: 70mins from Salzburg Airport

Bad Hofgastein is a traditional Austrian market village set in the Gastein Valley and located in the sunniest and broadest point of the valley. The town has a well-established feel and benefits from a pedestrianised centre, beautiful shops, hotels and restaurants. The Gastein Ski Region lies within the Salzburg province of Austria and is formed by three towns Bad Hofgastein, Bad Gastein (Bad being German for spa) and Dorfgastein. Bad Hofgastein is only 70mins drive from Salzburg airport. It is not necessary to have a car, as these resorts are very easily accessible by regular direct trains from Salzburg to both Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein. A return journey only costs 33 Euros.

You can fly directly to Salzburg from London, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Coventry, Doncaster, Sheffield, Dublin, East Midlands, Liverpool, and Manchester.

Bad Hofgastein

Bad Hofgastein is a busy metropolis of fashionable designer shops and fine restaurants. The town boasts some of the best spa hotels in Europe including the superb 5 star Grand Park Hotel. It is also home to the huge Alpine Therme complex - there are also plenty of charming coffee bars, a beautiful park and outdoor ice skating in the pedestrianised centre of this charming town.

Bad Gastein

The stunning Belle Époque town of Bad Gastein is situated high in the Gastein valley with a natural waterfall cascading through the very heart of the town. Famous throughout Europe for its thermal spa, Bad Gastein retains its imposing grandeur that made it hugely popular with European royalty and famous artists at the turn of the 20th century. Nowadays not only the spa, but also the luxurious casino draws in the sophisticated traveller seeking a resort, which mixes excellent snow sports and facilities, with a romantic period setting.

Dorfgastein

The charming Dorfgastein lies at the entrance to the Gastein valley and is a paradise for families. Popular with visitors for its relaxing solar baths and fairytale stalactite cave, it has excelled by catering specifically for families. Keeping the children entertained is never a problem with a miniature railway, waterslides, child-only ski slopes and “Pongi” club providing plenty of fun!

Winter and Skiing – over 200km of ski trails

With 200km of piste the Gastein valley offers a fantastic skiing area and forms part of the vast Ski Amade. The majority of runs favour the intermediate skier but there are still plenty of runs to challenge skiers of other abilities. There is also 90 km of cross-country skiing, floodlit tobogganing, ice skating, curling, ice climbing, horse drawn sleighs and winter hiking. The skiing goes up to an altitude of over 2600 m Bad Gastein is the highest of the towns and its increasing popularity and superb ski conditions made it the choice venue for the 2007 Red Bull Playstreets Championship and it is also due to host the 2008 Nokia Snowboard FIS World Cup.

Summer – a truly dual season resort!

The Gastein Valley has plenty to offer the summer visitor as the entire region is transformed into a paradise of greenery and flowers. Besides all the spa facilities and eighteen hole golf course, there is tennis, squash, volleyball, basketball, football, fishing, skateboarding, and paragliding on offer. Also the exceptionally beautiful Hohe Tauern National Park covering approximately 1800 square metres offers cycling and numerous hiking and walking routes, and with 55 mountain inns scattered throughout the valley there are plenty of opportunities for the weary traveller to stop for refreshment!

In addition to the many spa hotels in the valley there are also several fantastic public spa facilities fed by the seventeen thermal springs that emerge into the Gastein region. These thermal pools are great for both fun and relaxing with themed pools with waterfalls, geysers and slides to keep the children (and adults) happy! The mountain location means that in addition to the usual steam and sauna rooms, most resorts offer Gastein also has many cave based saunas and steam rooms. Golf - 18 Holes, Par 71 Golf Course

The Gastein Golf Club (Par 71) was founded in 1960; it is one of the oldest golf clubs in Austria and occupies a beautiful position between Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein. Picture perfect fairways guide you graciously through the natural landscape at the foot of the Gastein Mountains. The driving range and putting green are in the immediate vicinity of the clubhouse, which, with the cosy golfer's pub and the large terrace, forms the hub of club activity. There is also a golf school for those who want to learn or to improve their play.
